THE NEW WEB-APP TO FOLLOW HIM

Now you can follow his training sessions and see his latest blood tests; read tweets and browse photos; learn more about his biography “In salita controvento” (Uphill, against the wind) and his favourite music. All this through a web application that can be downloaded to smartphones (IOS and Android) tablets and computers.
Thanks to “Ride with Ivan Basso” the Liquigas-Cannondale captain is now a bona fide 2.0 sportsman, and the first rider to dream up and create a personal app. Basso is already savvy when it comes to the latest technologies and social networking (over 5,000 friends on Facebook, and more than 70,000 followers on Twitter), and wanted to offer fans a new way to find out more about his life in and out of the saddle.
Produced by Lexicon Digital Media, with invaluable help from Mapei Sport in the design phase, the project represents a new step forward on the road to improved transparency in the world of sport started by Aldo Sassi in 2008. Lotto has also partnered the initiative and will offer advice about training on the ground through the app.
«I wanted something that was innovative and ultra modern that would offer my fans a quick and easy way to see what I’m doing, » said Ivan. «Thanks to Mapei Sport, Lexicon and Lotto we now have this new app that not only offers useful advice but it also puts a new seal of assurance on my role as an athlete. The first test will be no less than the Tour: follow me and see just how hard the everyday life of a cyclist can be. »
Andrea Morelli, who is the head of the Mapei Sport biomechanical laboratory and Ivan’s contact at the centre, says that, «This new collaboration is important and very significant. We’ll be able to know his training methods, how many hours he spends in the saddle, where he rides, how many miles and what sort of climbs he does and his power output. “Ride with Ivan Basso” is definitely an interesting tool for elite and amateur cyclists alike, but it will also appeal to people who ride for fun and not competition. »
The “Ride with Ivan Basso” web app is optimised for mobile navigation and is available from www.mapeisport.it/ivanbasso/mobile. Just select “Add to Home” from your browser menu to install the icon with the other apps on your mobile phone.
